What is sport psychology?
Sport psychology is the science dedicated to the understanding of individual and group behaviors and mental processes in sport settings.
What does a sport psychologist do?
In our society, it is widely acknowledged that mental factors significantly impact sport performance, yet athletes spend a vast majority of their time training only their physical skills. Sport psychologists can help athletes and coaches identify areas of growth in their mental game, and introduce specific strategies to help them improve their mental skills. I like to think of my approach to treatment as "mental weightlifting."
Is therapy right for me?
Seeking out therapy is a personal choice. There are many reasons why people come to therapy. Sometimes it is to deal with long-standing psychological issues or unexpected changes in one's life, and other times it is for personal growth or performance enhancement in some domain. Working with a therapist can help provide insight, support, and new strategies for all types of life challenges.
What benefits can I expect from working with a therapist?
Therapy can provide insight and new perspectives into life's challenges and can help create solutions to difficult problems. Many people find that working with a therapist can enhance personal development, improve relationships, and ease the stresses faced in daily life.
