What is sport psychology?

  • Sport psychology is the science dedicated to the understanding of behaviors and mental processes in sport settings.


What does a sport psychologist do?

  • Sport psychologists help athletes and coaches understand how mental factors affect performance, and introduce specific strategies to help them strengthen their mental skills.


Outside of his practice, Dr. Kaufman taught Sport Psychology and co-led a sport psychology lab at Catholic University in Washington, DC for over a decade.  He is now chief executive officer of the MSPE Institute, providing education and consultation on integrating mindfulness into sport and other performance environments, and co-hosts the Mindful Sport Performance Podcast 

His book, Mindful Sport Performance Enhancement: Mental Training for Athletes and Coaches, published by APA Books is now available, as is the accompanying DVD
